Modder

Why I Built This

Minecraft has 170 million active players. A huge chunk of them want custom mods but can’t code. The modding community is gatekept by technical skill - you need to understand JSON manifests, behavior packs, resource packs, UUID linking, and a dozen other format-specific details just to add a custom sword.

I wanted to blow that gate wide open. Describe your mod in plain English, and Modder generates a complete, playable Bedrock addon. No coding. No tutorials. Just ideas turned into reality.

What It Does

Type something like “a diamond pickaxe that shoots lightning and has a 10% chance to spawn a friendly wolf when you mine ore.” Modder’s AI generates the complete addon - behavior pack, resource pack, manifests, textures, the works. Download the .mcaddon file and drop it into Minecraft.

The platform includes a community gallery where creators share and rate mods, a leaderboard for the most popular creations, and a personal dashboard to manage everything you’ve built.

How It’s Built

  • Framework: Remix on Cloudflare Workers
  • Database: Cloudflare D1 for mod metadata, ratings, and user data
  • Storage: Cloudflare R2 for .mcaddon file hosting
  • Queue: Cloudflare Queues for background texture generation
  • AI: Claude Sonnet for mod generation and content moderation
  • Textures: PixelLab API for AI-generated pixel art
  • Auth: Clerk for user management
  • Design: Tailwind CSS with a cyberpunk/matrix aesthetic

The Two-Stage Render Trick

This is my favorite architectural decision. Mod generation takes 1-3 minutes, and texture generation adds more time. Instead of making users wait for everything, Modder does a two-stage render:

  1. Generate the mod instantly with solid-color placeholder textures
  2. Queue background texture generation via Cloudflare Queues
  3. PixelLab generates proper pixel-art textures asynchronously
  4. Update the mod file when textures are ready

Users get a playable mod in minutes. The textures upgrade automatically in the background. Nobody waits.

Who It’s For

Minecraft players who have ideas but not coding skills. Content creators building custom experiences for their communities. Parents and educators who want to use modding as a teaching tool. Anyone who’s ever thought “I wish Minecraft had…” and couldn’t make it happen.

FAQ

Does it actually work in Minecraft? Yes. It generates spec-compliant Bedrock Edition addon packages. Download the .mcaddon, import it, and play.

Are the mods moderated? Claude screens every mod description before generation. Inappropriate content gets blocked before any resources are spent.

How good are the textures? The PixelLab-generated textures are solid pixel art. They match Minecraft’s visual style and support transparency, armor shading, and custom item sprites.
